Project Veggie Garden is planted!

After our big spring break push, there were just a few little things to complete before we planted.  Here's the photo overview.  The bottom line is, we have seeds in the ground, with two more sections to finish once the threat of frost has cleared.

 Planting has begun.  We have done Carrots, Lettuce, Peas, and Spinach so far.  After the threat of frost clears, we will add Beans, Tomatos, and Cucumbers.  Doesn't it all sound so yummy??

No, that's not a sail, that's the climbing structure that Jeremy put together (rather quickly since we were both REALLY tired on Sunday evening) for our pole peas. 

So, we still have a list of stuff we want to do for the garden:

There are blue berry plants to purchase and put in. 
The walkways will be trimmed with stone pavers and then filled with cedar chips. 
The rain barrels need to be hooked up to hoses.
A small storage locker for our tools needs to be constructed. 
Our herb beds will go in one foot spaces at the end of each veggie bed. 
I still want some sitting spots inside and outside the garden (I have a couple of different ideas here, ask me in person if you wanna know).
And some hanging baskets need to be filled and placed around for a more lush feeling.

So, I guess it's not really done yet, and maybe it never will be.  I do know it's my new happy place and I look forward to spending lots of time out there this summer!

Easter 2011

There was lots of candy, eggs, amazing food, and wonderful family gatherings. Here's the highlights in photos. Happy Easter to all!

 It was an exhausting weekend...trust me.  If I could have fallen asleep on the floor, I would have.

Ella Maxine Turns 1

Our youngest niece turned one this month. She is such a cutie and we were happy to celebrate with her.

The end of our staycation

And the garden is not quite finished. But, it's close. Maybe one more weekend's worth of work and we'll be ready to plant.

The filling begins!  We had a few extra helpers to get the dirt moved, and it was a good thing.  Kept me happy and the kids busy! Thanks Jenn, Jessica, and AJ!

As it sits, now.  We have more pickets to put up, and one more gate to build.  Then, it's on to filling the walkways with cedar chips and planting!  Whoot!

Spring break; Garden Stay-cation

Since it's really close to planting time and it's spring break, Jeremy decided to take a week off from work and get this garden DONE!  So, we are making some faster progress, now.  Here's some more photos to catch you up to speed.

We had one post left from the old fence that we had to remove.  We had to dig down deep to find the cement support. We guess the hole was about two feet down when all was said and done.

 Jeremy rented a HUGE rototiller to help us dig up all the grass.  It was stubborn sod, I tell ya.

 In the middle of a 'spring shower' that felt more like a down pour complete with hail, we got our new topsoil from one of my favorite garden centers, Carpinito Brothers.

Jeremy, being extra through, put up some steaks to help us visualize where the raised beds will go.  It helped us try to level the ground a bit, too. 

Now, we are finishing building our veggie beds.  Tomorrow we fill them with dirt! By the end of the week, we should be planting!  Yay!!
