Spring is in the air

....and we just had to go soak it up this morning. The sun was out so we headed to our local beach park and spent a couple of hours playing, exploring, and eating lunch. It was a perfect morning.

What a COOL weekend!

I had a really fun weekend, this weekend. It was filled with lots of my favorite things! Friends, Family, a SUPER moon, and of course more progress on our project veggie garden. Here are some picture highlights!

Friday night drinks with my friends! :) Good times.

While Jeremy was at a soccer meeting Saturday morning, I filled in the trench left by our removed hedge.

Re-planting our hedges, down by the road.

All finished. We hope they will thrive here.

The SUPER moon was amazing. After dinner with my Dad in Shoreline, we saw it rise as we drove home. When we arrived home, we grabbed the binoculars and a good camera and tried to capture it's amazing beauty. Wow. Of course, these don't even come close to how it was with our own eyes.

Sunday morning I spent some time on the trail with Jenn. Then J2D2 headed down to Gig Harbor to celebrate Riley's 7th Birthday.

Great weekend! We are blessed!

Happy St Patrick's Day!

I'm liking the green today! Green pancakes, green shirts, Irish music, and sunshine on the green grass. It's a good day!

St. Patrick's Day Dash

I participated in my first ever 'Dash' today! My sister in law asked me to join her and it sounded like a fun thing to do. She's been training for more running than I have, but we both made it to the finish line with smiles on our faces. It was a VERY wet race, but the rain didn't seem to hamper the spirit of the people who run in it. I didn't take a lot of pics during the race, but there was some really fun people watching! After participating today, I really do think I'm built for the long distance events. It took me almost the whole race just to warm up! But, that's ok. I am glad I did it. Loads of fun; Thanks N for inviting me to join you!

In the parking garage; thanks to hubby we had dry, free parking.

Pre-race smiles!

Me, at the start.

One of the BEST outfits I saw all day. Look for the 'cheeks.'

Half way, whoot!
It took us about 50 mins to do 4 miles. Well done, us!

Project Veggie Garden, phase 2

Jeremy and I spent some more time on our veggie garden dreams this weekend. We picked a VERY wet day to do some heavy physical work. But, as usual, my husband can be pretty creative. He set up the easy-up over our work area and it kept the space from becoming a huge mud bath.
The first one came out pretty easy.

The next two...not so much. Poor Jeremy was pretty discouraged. But it didn't last long. After lunch we set to work on the smaller ones and to figure out what to do next on the stubborn ones.

By the end of the day, we were able to remove all of the hedge, but not without a lot of swearing, sweating, and digging. (and SUPER sore muscles too!) There are seven stumps total, and two of them are monsters. We found that both of them had large roots, about 4 to 5 inches thick and they were headed straight down into the earth, under the stumps. After alot of digging, we cleared enough of the dirt away to use the chain saw and get them out of there. Whew.

It looks like a tree graveyard.

Helpers!
The hardest part of the project is over. Now....the fun rebuilding begins. Yippee!!

Trumpet Vine...my newest plant

I'm so excited about this plant....I can't wait to watch it crawl up the side of my house. I might even train it onto the future garden fence if it does well. Here's an idea of what the blooms will look like:

Of course, mine is just sticks right now. I was able to plant it in between rain showers this afternoon. The root ball was thick and full, so I think it will be so happy to stretch out it's legs in the earth. I really can't wait for spring!

Empty hole or soul?

The last few days have been pretty rough for me. I've been on an emotional roller coaster ever since....well....I can't even remember the near past when I wasn't. Today, I'm really feeling down. Lonely. Just not myself. I just had a conversation with a friend and after we parted, I replayed it in my head. I sounded needy and insecure. UGH. I don't like to be that way. It pushes people away instead of creating comfort and closeness. I don't like that side of me, at all.

I watched a TV program last night called Super Nanny. And the mom on the show was really frustrated, angry, and overwhelmed by her kids. It looked so familiar to me. While my kids don't hit or scream quite like hers, I recognized her emotions. One of the things that Super Nanny worked with her on, was having her own thing. Besides just being a stay at home mom. What did SHE want? It made me think....could this be my problem too? Am I not fulfilled enough by just being a stay at home mom?

I know I've felt this way before...and the way I fixed it was to get more involved with a mom's group. And, lately, that mom's group has been going through lots of changes. Kids are in school now, and it's been much harder to get together for play dates. Everyone seems busy. I've been feeling out of touch and at a distance from alot of the moms I used to see every week. So, I know that's part of this mood.

But is there something more? From the outside, it looks like I have everything I could ever want! A home, a loving husband, and two wonderful kids. How COULD I ask for more? And yet, being a wife and mother only defines me partly. The thing is, I don't really have a job I want to go back to. There isn't this other life waiting for my return. I have some passions...like birds, gardening, scrap booking and massage. I've been learning to like walking/running long distance. Somehow, this doesn't feel like enough. Not today, anyway. Why can't I just be content? Where is the hole that clearly exists?

Rainy Day Blues

It's pouring down rain this morning.....and I had wanted to plant my newest member of my garden today. I guess my vine will have to wait. To cheer myself up, I'm wearing new hummingbird socks, from my mom's visit to the NW Garden show. Cute, huh? Thanks, Mom!

Project Veggie Garden is under way!

Jeremy and I have been dreaming of growing our own vegetables for years now. We have decided that it's time to make that dream come true. The kids are old enough now to help, so preparation has begun. We are going to expand the side of our yard to make a happy little garden. The first phase was to trim the cherry tree so more light can get into this space. The Second phase entails moving a row of laurel hedges and a fence before we can even construct the raised beds for the veggies.

Trim hedges, down to the trunks.

Next step...make a space to move the hedges to.

Third step...measurement time. Well, and dreaming time too. Jeremy and I like this phase alot. We had a ball talking about what to put where.

The garden will be here someday......

Planning sketches....it's still a work in progress!

We are so excited for the end result, but dreading the next phase: moving the hedges. It's going to be back breaking work! Anyone willing to help will be fed well. :)
