Project Veggie Garden, phase 2

Jeremy and I spent some more time on our veggie garden dreams this weekend. We picked a VERY wet day to do some heavy physical work. But, as usual, my husband can be pretty creative. He set up the easy-up over our work area and it kept the space from becoming a huge mud bath.
The first one came out pretty easy.

The next two...not so much. Poor Jeremy was pretty discouraged. But it didn't last long. After lunch we set to work on the smaller ones and to figure out what to do next on the stubborn ones.

By the end of the day, we were able to remove all of the hedge, but not without a lot of swearing, sweating, and digging. (and SUPER sore muscles too!) There are seven stumps total, and two of them are monsters. We found that both of them had large roots, about 4 to 5 inches thick and they were headed straight down into the earth, under the stumps. After alot of digging, we cleared enough of the dirt away to use the chain saw and get them out of there. Whew.

It looks like a tree graveyard.

Helpers!
The hardest part of the project is over. Now....the fun rebuilding begins. Yippee!!
