Our first born turned 4 years old this week; on April 14th. Derick is an amazing little guy...so full of imagination and stories. At some point, we'll have to talk to him about truth and fiction. But, for now, we just let the stories roll. They almost always involve his 'rat pack' Robbie, Bob, Jacob, and Jan. He's still totally into cars, video games, curious George, and playing outside. He is very social with his real friends too....and is always begging me to invite someone over for a play date. His favorite park is Coulon; a local beach park here in Renton. It makes sense; he loves the water as much as I do. Naps are over; totally. He's much more independent now, doing things for himself is a source of pride. Power struggles between what I want him to do and what he wants to do, seem to create the most time-outs. Darla is one of his most favorite people; he loves her so much. However, Derick IS the big brother and likes to remind her of that. He is tender and sweet one moment and then, not so much, the next.
We celebrated all week long with several parties and gatherings. Here are some of the fun moments of Derick's Big Birthday Week.

Robot cupcakes-Derick helped make the one on the right, which then inspired me with the rest.

Party in the park, with friends. It was a beautiful day for a beach park party. We played on the toys, ate cupcakes, and got sandy and wet.

Derick and Savanah found a turtle on the beach. Derick promptly named him Charlie.
Notice, he's soaking wet...up to his waist! Brrrrrr!

Playing with some of his new toys.

Birthday Dinner at Red Robbin. YUM!

Derick celebrated his April birthday at Preschool with another classmate, Lucia.

Derick and his teacher, Ms Richards.

Family and friends came over to celebrate. Derick picked robots as his theme this year. Jeremy and I had fun with the cake and decorations. There was bouncing, snacks, cake, a craft, and presents!

We love you, Derick. And we look forward to the next year growing and learning with you.
