We found this tiger swallowtail caterpillar in our yard, twice! He's pretty ugly in this photo, but after a little research we realized he's about ready to transform. So fun and a great teaching moment for us all. We hope to see him as a butterfly.

Daddy and the kids made rice crispy pumpkin treats with a special chocolate surprise inside. YUM!

I got to take a fall gardening class with a friend, put on by Seattle Tilth. It was a class all about how to put your garden to bed for winter. So, after the class, Jeremy and I spent a couple of hours getting that process started. We took down the beans, tomatoes, and cucumbers. Alot of the material from those plants will help add wonderful nutrients back into our soil. Now I'm waiting for more leaves to fall so we can fill up the other beds and top them with burlap bags and rocks. It's a method called sheet mulching. Cool.

Here's the almost empty planter that held our tomato 'bush.'

Carrots have been gone for a while, but I did plant spinach and some lettuce at the end of August. It's not growing fast...and I may have to cover it soon...but I'd like to try at least one corner as a winter garden.

The kids and I are off in search of some leaves on this beautiful fall afternoon. Keep watching for more fun fall moments!
