Growing a garden has taught me so much about how plants thrive and I continue to make mistakes...sometimes fatal. This year is no exception. The garden is in full swing now, after a pretty slow start.
The pumpkins and sunflowers LOVE the new planter in the front yard. They get tons of hot sunshine all day long. We are pretty excited about having all kinds of yummy pumpkin treats this fall.
My beans are a towering stock, growing all over themselves to find the sunshine. I love it, but I am a little worried about harvesting....hopefully I'll be able to find all the goodness under all those vines.
The carrots thrive and we have started to harvest them. There is nothing better than a fresh, sweet carrot for lunch. I may have been a rabbit in a previous life.....
Behind the carrots, you can see the tops of my broccoli and brussel sprout plants. What a WASTE of space! I love both of those veggies so much, but the plants are huge with very little return. And I've been battling the cabbage worms, who are eating the leaves like crazy! Grrrrrrr!
The zucchini is coming too...my first time growing them. Last night we had zucchini fritters for dinner. YUM! I hope these plants keep making more.
One of my big failures, again. My peas (My FAVORITE) got sick again with mold/blight. The whole group rotted right on the vine. It's heartbreaking for me to watch....and I tried to save them, to no avail. They were delish while they lasted. Sigh. I think I've just been planting them too close together. I'll try again next year. I can't give up on them, just yet.
Yummy harvest!
One more success....my trumpet vine has finally bloomed!! I am so thrilled because I just love this vine. I can't wait to train it up and over the garden gate. :)

I harvest, cook and preserve from my grandpa's garden and zucchini is my favorite. We have so many delish zucchini recipes. Cake, bread, pancakes, zucchini canoes, tacos, yum!!!! We don't have any zukes yet, but I have been making tons of pickles out of a big crop of cucumbers this year. I love to see your garden posts!
